11/10/2025  ASEAN Day for Disaster Management

National

ASEAN Day for Disaster Management is an important platform to highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen regional resilience and preparedness against disasters. The Minister of Home Affairs said that over the past two decades, the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response has been a strong foundation in supporting regional solidarity and creating an integrated approach to disaster risk management. The threats faced today are no longer conventional. Climate change has made them more complex and unpredictable. The old paradigm of disasters being handled by a single agency is no longer practical. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, as the Chair of National Disaster Council highlighted these during the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management celebration, 11th October morning.

Yang Berhormat added there is now a clear national mandate in which they are more integrated and proactive in all aspects of disaster risk management. The National Disaster Management Centre or NDMC, and other agencies need to move together in which the Whole of Government and Whole of Nation approaches are vital in realising this.

In creating an integrated disaster management ecosystem, the Disaster Management Strategic Policy Framework book and Basic Public Safety Guide 2025 Edition were launched. Also held was a preparedness exhibition from various stakeholders related to disaster management and response involving government and non-governmental agencies as well as Higher Education Institutions. Also present was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu, Deputy Minister for Security  and Law at the Prime Minister's Office.
